Millennials Should Be the Happiest Generation, but They're Not

Millennials Should Be the Happiest Generation, but They're Not

We live at a time when it should be easier to live than ever before. However, that couldn't be any further from the truth, with the majority of Millenials not being happy. As written by E-counseling.com, "With fast growing technologies, lifestyle, the use of social media, and a new "hot" topic developing every minute, they're probably too busy to be depressed, right?" It really seems Millenials are living the time of their lives. However, there are more things to be stressed about now than for previous generations.

The numbers of unhappy young adults are higher now than in the past. Of course, money is one of the common focal points as to why Millenials are not a happy lot. Often financial difficulties result in stress and anxiety. These hard times make it quite hard to be satisfied. The following are some of the main reasons why in as much as Millenials should be the happiest generation, they are not;

Millennials are less financially stable

When you look at previous generations, they were a little bit more stable financially. In fact, according to particular research, the median income among white Americans decreased by 21% between 1989 and 2013. What's even more, Millenials now have a lower net worth than that of generation X. It goes to show how much these young adults are struggling, especially at a time when the cost of living is significantly high. No wonder they are not a happy lot!

Societal pressure

The amount of stress that millennials are experiencing from society is tremendous as compared to previous generations. At this age, everyone expects you to be successful. That's why you see so many adults on social media living a fake life. The society expects them to present themselves in some way. It is these unrealistic expectations that cause depression among most young adults. With society pressure, millennials develop a higher need for perfectionism instead of concentrating on being happy.

 Getting a well-paying job is becoming increasingly difficult

Unlike a couple of years ago, these days, finding a decent job is quite hard. As such, it becomes challenging for millennials to take care of their bills like school loans, rent, utilities as well as their lifestyle. How can you be a happy young adult when you can barely provide for your needs?

Obsessed with success

All millennials care about these days is making it in life. They are obsessed with success. In an era when you only get recognized if you are doing well, everyone wants to be successful. You find most young adults comparing themselves to other people who are doing better than them primarily through social media. That's one of the easiest ways to get depression and anxiety.

We live at a time when the world is changing rapidly. There are numerous inventions, and you can't help but think why the current generation is not happy. There are many reasons as to why, but happiness starts from within. You can't keep thinking that your problems are more prominent and less solvable than those of others. The truth is, everyone has their struggles. However, millennials seem to struggle in many departments than their forebears, and it's easy to see why they are so unhappy.
